No escape:

2 out of 2 people found the following comment useful:-
Actually This Is Kind Of Fun, 12 August 2005
6/10
Author: no-skyline from Rochester, England

Ray Liota stars in this sci-fi actioner, sent to an in-escapable island prison he bands together with a group of fellow inmates to fight off a band of savages. Stuart Wilson plays Marek the psycho leader of the savages and his over the top portrayal fits in with the late night b-movie feel. Also appearing are a whole host of British character actors along with Lance Henrickson and Ernie Hudson who seem to make a living off this type of direct to video fare.

If your not into sci-fi or action you may as well leave now, this is one of those films that regular appears late at night on the movie channel and is worth watching because it's a fun no brainer. The best way to describe it is a cross of Mad Max and Fortress the Christopher Lambert Sci-Fi effort. This film is superior to Fortress but falls way short of Mad Max.

Liota is pretty good but this is no where near his quality of performance in Goodfella's and to be honest it doesn't need to be as this is b-movie action fun not Scorsese. He drives the plot along and carries the action scenes off well. Lance Henrikson is reliable as ever and adds to his impressive list of fantasy/sci-fi appearances, Ernie Hudson is OK but will never escape from the isn't that the fourth guy in ghostbusters who didn't have much to do? One for the late night sci-fi / b-movie fans 6/10

I watched Starwars episode 4, 5 and 6, the original theatrical ones. It was a great time.

Then I put in the remastered DVD, man that was a total different experience.
I love the original ones and it's a shame Lucas never remastered those.

But you got to give the man some credit on how he did the sound and contrast good on the remastered DVDs.

And now I'm gonna fuck around once again with Jason, that fucker will be mine.
His rotten anus wont stand a change to my erected cyberstick.

Freak Out
(4 out of 5 Pure Quality Stars)

Image

This movie took me completely by surprise.
When I popped it in, I thought I was going to be seeing some rolling stones phyc me out in some futuristic garbage (freejack). But i'm a n00b and got the titles mixed up.
Much to my surprise, this movie was nothing like I was expecting.

After I got past my initial shock of no Jagger, I thought this movie was pretty stupid.
I just said to myself "oh great, another retarded British comedy thats going to snipe my braincells".
I was Wrong (kinda)

Turns out, this movie just kept getting better and better.
I saw so many homages to such classics as Evil Dead, and night of the living dead, and Friday the 13th, and Halloween, and and and and...... It pretty much had them all.

Not only did it show its respects to it's predecessors, but it did it in a hilarious way.

Half the humor was witty, the other half, slapstick.
I mean come on, a vegan serial killer.
A bad movie within a bad movie.

Trust me, even though this review sucks, the movie doesn't.
I was hesitant to give it a Pure Quality rating because the movie isn't that bad. But, most of the humor is for people who enjoy the Purest of Pure Quality.

Brainscan
(2.5 out of 5 stars)

Image

I kept reading on the internet (my first mistake) that this movie was great, and that it has stood the test of time.
"hmmmm" I thought to myself
"a movie about a videogame in the 90's stand the test of time? I must investigate!"
So I pop this bad boy in! and BOO-YA!!!!!!!!!

Brainscan is a movie about a game that's "more real than real", it messes with your reality!
So I'm chillin, watch this movie and WOW!!! it does mess with my reality, this is freaky!!!!!!!
"the lead character limps in some scenes, and others, he doesn't!!!!!"
"half the time, the chick in the movie looks like a man, the other times, a cute girl next door!!!!!!!"
"can Edward Furlong act? or does that screechy voice of his bypass our reasoning brain waves?"
"why does that guy use a gun to talk to people (*cough*ash*cough*)"

There are many mind blowing reality altering things in this film..................... and I'm not going to get into the plot holes.

But back to the movie at hand.
Brainscan is a game you play to experience "terror more real than reality"

Heres a couple of things one will experience while playing a "more real than real" 1994 video game

First, after you load your "Disk" into the Disk drive thats bigger than my VCR, you'll experience the ultimate in bad graphics and scratchy sound!!!!!
Then, you sit down in your super l33t modern chair and start having a seizure (while spitting and drooling all over yourself).
After your done making love to your chair; look in complete awe as none other than AEROSMITH!!!!!!!!!!!! comes out of the TV and start s talking dirty to you.
Image
STEVEN TYLER!!!!!!!!! (scary stuff)

Then your friend doesn't stop calling you and saying "buddies forever". He'll get all EMO when you don't want to hang out with him.
Image

Image

After you kill your "bud"
The freakish man-woman that you've been stalking all of a sudden stalks you!
Image
That girl next door isn't so innocent, you'd best kill her too.

After you've killed everyone in the town, its game over!!!..................................................................OR IS IT?!!!!?!?!!!!!

TWIST ENDING!!!!!!!!!!
YOU'RE YOUR OWN GRANDPA!!!!!!!!

errrr, sorry, the movie.
The only reason I gave it a 2.5 instead of a 2, is cause if you shave off the first and last 15 minutes, it might be pretty good.
And the computer was the size of my microwave, that made me lawl.

Just in case you didn't click on the IMDB link at the top before reading this. Haxan (Danish for witch) was made in 1922. Its a movie that seeks to disprove witchery and devils among people by showing examples of witchcraft in the past.
The movie is divided into 7 chapters (15 minutes apiece). Each chapter telling the story from a person's point of view; witch, accused witch, priest, judge, normal drunkard hobo.
The story progresses with each chapter until at the end, the director shows us just how silly the devil is.

I'm hesitant to brag about this movie because I haven't seen The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, but this movie was the most innovative, original, film I'd ever seen.
There were a lot of camera tricks I'd never seen done earlier than this. (and it used them all so well!)
  • Red colored lens tent for scenes that depicted "evil"
  • Stop-Go animation
  • Reverse feedback

Its hard to describe the rest... People coming out of the devil's chest/cave, a face with a mouth that opens like a door for people, and Nasty devils coming out of smoke makes for a damn good special effects team considering the Ford's Model T was still in fashion.
Another innovative reason this movie is freakin awesome is it shows naked women (mostly just suggestive through shadows and silly bushes, no "nudity"). This was unheard of in my book back in the day. Hell in It happened one night the scene when she pulled her skirt up to her KNEE and cars screeched to stop for them was famous. In Haxan you see naked woman's curves through the dark shadows of the night (most of the movie was shot at night) and it's very risqu?.

Aside from all the material reasons this movie kicked major ass, the story was incredibly well told through its chapters. Its been a long time sense I've been disturbed by a movie (in a kinda good way). The way some of the characters were treated and how things happened back then will leave anyone with a sticky feeling of injustice (I knew about all the witch's treatments and trails, just never saw it in a good movie).
My only beef with this movie are the parts when the director literally explains why the devil is mostly figments of people's imagination. It gets alittle old sometimes, people must have more common sense (I'd like to think) today than to blame people's actions on outside mystical forces (grumble grumble grumble catholics grumble grumble).

I'm not sure if this movie had any controversy surrounding it when it came out, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was.
This is a beautifully dark, wonderfully shot film. I would Strongly recommend watching this if you find anyone that has it (me, bitch).

Here are some screen shots from the stills gallery, I really couldn't help myself, this movie is phenomenal.
Click on the pictures to enlarge them.
