This is to improve upon that, helped compressibility a good amount. :)

Some dirty borders don't compromise compressibility by a good amount! Either you made a mistake when comparing the compressibility or the script is messing the source.

Ahh yeah my cmd line was different, wasted time using the wrong .bat file.

1 hour left using the correct cmd line, will see if there is any improvement.

Final ratefactor went from 18.30 to 17.98. I didn't run the second pass so I can't compare the final QP's.

That sounds wrong too. Just look at the script! No matter how dirty those borders are, it's fixing just very thin lines!

The goal of the script is just to get nice borders, it shouldn't change the compressibility by a noticeable margin.

I ran the same exact cmd line, only difference is the AVS script and my script doesn't have any tweaks, denoising etc, just had a little sharpening, would that make a difference?

The little sharpening. :clown:

LSFMod decreases compressibility? Didn't know that.

denoising improves compressibility
sharpening destroys compressibility

sometimes you need to use a bit of both to get the best results.

glitch

It's not in the source judging by AvsP, so that would eliminate DGIndexNV as the culprit right?

Post subject:  Re: Ripping/encoding/releasing Q & A Prt. II

I can only guess. The borders of those visible macroblocks look a bit "softish", so I don't think it was x264. Maybe it is DGIndexNV or some of the AviSynth filters. Even if you can see the frame ok in AvsP, it doesn't mean an error can't happen there under some circumstances.

Just try again.

And maybe you could ask @ doom10 about this.

I've updated x264 to the latest (1643) and DGIndexNV to 2010 from 2007, going to try again.

Updated AviSynth Plugins folder. Attention this is only for AviSynth 2.5.7!

Highlights:
- SmoothAdjust v1.02. SmoothAdjust supercedes SmoothLevels.
- MaskTools 2.0a44.
- Temporal Degrain v1.23.

there is a folder called system32. Copy the 4 DLLs from that folder to \WINDOWS\system32. I think the equivalent folder on XP 64 is \WINDOWS\SysWOW64\

After the updates, new encode, same glitch, same exact frame, wtf else could it be?

try with DGAVCIndex perhaps...

At least it's reproduceable! :ere:

Encode it again using the same commandline, but without the fancy EbP script.

edit: or do what fuego suggests.

I got it to show up in the source! So it's my video card + DGDecNV + this bluray not playing nice. It doesn't always show up either, when I move the slider around and come back it's fine, it just seems to randomly come up when looking at the source.

What about DGAVCIndex?

... and/or driver update?

Post subject:  Re: Ripping/encoding/releasing Q & A Prt. II

DGAVCIndex seems to work but the funny thing is I switched back to DGDecNV and now I don't see the macroblocks, :cracked: it seems to pop up at random times when checking out the source. Weird.

:clown:

The fact that you got the same problem on different encodes means that those circumstances are somehow reproduceable.

I get that, it's just the source deciding to block at different times is making it hard to nail down the exact cause.

When I encoded it the blocks were still there. :(

Updated my video card drivers, encoding the first 6k frames see if I get it in the same exact spot again.

Edit: LOL it did it again, same spot!!! Switching to DGAVCIndex.

Edit 2: No glitch with DGAVCIndex

DGDecNV is under constant development, I'm sure this problem will get fixed at some point. Good thing that we still have DGAVCIndex. :ere:
