Well I've got a problem.

It seems when I do a lot of copying to my harddrive the system slows down and crashes.
When I defrag, same thing. When I scan for virusses, same thing.

Could it be I've a nasty virus, or maybe one of my harddrives is fucked.

I've a feeling though that I've had something similar before and fixed it.

Try a bootable CD, one that includes virus scanning, and hardware tests. Hiren's BootCD for example.

It became more and more nasty and an hour ago Bubba came and fucked me in the ass so hard that windows said that winload.exe couldn't load anymore.

I put in my Windows Vista disc, oh yes I've an original one, and it fixed the startup problem.

I was checking some Vista shit and I turned off writingcache.
I dunno if my computer is slower now, but definitely doesn't crash now.

After defragmenting and virusscanning I will turn it on again.

Install Linux. Thats easier. No virus, no defragmentation because of stupid file systems...

Well I think it's hardware related.

The drive keeps disappearing and nothing works anymore

I've made 4 partitions, C D E and F
When I scan for viruses or do something else and then check the explorer, the drive is missing, yet Windows is still running.

Maybe 1000GB per drive is too much for Western Digital to handle

Does Vista have CheckDisk? If so run that.

If you can't run a bootable CD & you get constant crashes I would just reformat - install basic stuff to get you back up and start testing from there.

Besides harddrive intensive tests, do you crash if you do cpu intensive tasks and/or memory?

Well guys, today was a major crash and I got sick of it.

I really wanted to fuck the drive up the butt and buy a new one.
But no, I calmed down. Took everything apart and checked it again and found the problem.

A fucking faulty SATA cable.
After I replaced it with another one it was flying during bootup and even better. copying files and defragmenting goes like a charm. (AND FAST!!!)

Also the drive is very silent now

friggin cables....

mine one fucked up to (a red shitty one) it snapped all the plastic connector off the Drive, so for ages I was using sticky tape to hold it together (bad idea)

then I got a new blue one that glows in the dark (which makes no sense because my case is non transparent and its shit.)
