ok, I need to cut & join a number of mpgs that I made with my digital camera (old sony dsc thingy)
so far I tried a number of free tools, resulting in either : the vid freezes after processing, no image, no audio

any help on this please

edit: oh yeah, I tried WMM too, but it only seems to output wmv

Well cutting shouldn't be a problem, getting them together without any problems seems to be the hard turd here. Any idea why you have those problems and are they all the same with different programs?

I dunno, the cutting goes fine indeed, but the joining always fucks up, giving one of the probs from above (different problem for a different program)

Adobe Premiere? I remember I used it to make a background projection for a gig, I cut shitload of little clips from several .avi files and pasted them all together without any problems.

Virtualdubmod can load them and save them as AVI (uncompressed, big!) and once you have done that you can join the AVI files together and save it as one avi. This time using an AVS script or something, making it into a nice 2-pass xvid.

You can actually append one file to another with VirtualDub(Mod) so there is perhaps no need for an additional AVS script.

You can also append the files using an AVS script. This has been just suggested by elguaxo in the ripping thread.

well mpg files can't be appended. The option is greyed out in my version.

I tried vdubmod & it re-encodes to avi, which I don't mind, but I don't want a 4 gig avi, for an 11min vid

That's why you must encode that 4GB avi into a nice xvid avi
you can use gknot or megui to do it

EDIT: is it for the internet? I suggest you use Megui and encode the avi to mp4. There's jwplayer to play it online
