Post Cooling system cores
I noticed during my last encodes that all of my cores when encoding get temperatures varying from around 93 upto 100 degrees celsius. Now that cant be good for 'em.
So do you people know off ways to keep them cooler or at least a more consistent lower temperature.

I thought about an case fan cooler (?) they go for around 10 bucks and should optimize the airflow in the case. But I don't think I really need that since all the other temperatures like GPU, HDD, etc are well in the ok (around 40 degrees celsius).

:aww: :ere: :cheer:

Edit:
Forgot to mention, the system is not overclocked.

@pure: That's a bit high, yep.

If you are not overclocking then the stock cooler should be enough. Probably the cooler is not placed properly?

Something as simple as what's described in step 2 can make a big difference!

before assembling cpu cooler, I use credit card to fill entire cpu with thin layer (use approx. the size of head of match). also use good paste as artic silver: http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm

Edit: which cpu do u have?

The core is just a small thing that sits right in the middle. That's why it's not recommended to spread the paste!

@ telmo,
Nice temps :pooper:

Cooler is properly placed and the paste should be good aswell. Got some help from a mate of mine who knows that kinda stuff. But I'll get some good paste soon just to be sure and replace it. I'll keep that picture in mind how to place it :good:

My CPU is a Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz.

Next to some new cooling paste I think I'll be getting a new CPU cooler aswell. A while back I placed a better fan for the graphic card and that made a real difference so I think I'll try this aswell.
And maybe add a case fan aswell if they got them lying around for a few bucks. Better get my pay check soon.

I don't do this very often (maybe 1 one time every 2 or 3 years), but I know I always need a couple of tries. After placing the paste/cooler I run something like Prime95 for 1 hour and check that the temperature is ok. If not then I repeat the whole thing. I usually need 2 or 3 times to do it right.

These youtube videos FAIL.

Download a manual from Articsilver! The CPU the guy is describing in that video needs this:

Image

Quote:
Since the vast majority of the heat from the core travels directly through the heat spreader, it is more important to have a good interface directly above the actual CPU core than it is to have the heat spreader covered with compound from corner to corner.

the contact between CPU and cooler have to have thin layer of paste IMO, I always did it like that and never had a problem, even when OC'ed.

You don't want air bubbles or stuff like that. That's why you need to apply a small amount of paste directly over the actual core and then

Quote:
Once the heatsink is properly mounted, grasp the heatsink and very gently twist it slightly clockwise and counterclockwise one time each if possible (Just one or two degrees or so). Please note that some heatsinks cannot be twisted once mounted. However, our testing has shown that this method minimizes the possibility of air bubbles and voids in the thermal interface between the heat spreader and the heatsink.

You gave us the arcticsilver.com link. Go there and read the instructions! :bla:

There are two different schools of thought on applying thermal compound, the one shown bellow by me and the one Black Ninja wrote ?How to Apply Thermal Compound ? PROPERLY?.

:stretch:

Why would you trust some electricninja dude more than the instructions you get from the guys that produce the thermal paste?
