is this doable? I'm moving soon & the ethernet connection in the new place is located in a nasty place, so the only option I see atm is going wireless (I don't want cables lying loose through 3 rooms & such more)

Sure. My P2P PC has been wireless for the last 5 years and it literally works [24h][7d][365]. I have a regular Linksys router and my PC has a regular linksys adapter.

The router that electroneon is suggesting looks sexy! But I guess it's expensive.

My husband said he bought the cheapest router he could find, $30 or so, and we haven't had any problems with it. We are constantly downloading stuff and get excellent speeds.

Of course it is. I had it hooked up like that in my old apartment, where I had to move around with my laptop to find some workspace You're gonna need some basic router tweaking skills though, port forwarding and stuff. I had the same problems, but those two els helped me solve that

Of course, the other (safer) option is to go to your new building and buy a round of beers for the construction workers working on your apartment and ask them to put the cables under the floors and install ethernet socket(s) wherever you want them. No visible wall drilling in that case (although I'm pretty sure you're gonna have to drill them walls anyway ). That's what I'm gonna do when we re-decorate our apartment next spring (along with surround speakers cables and everything else I can think of)
