:cheer: Thanks for checking it out for me. :huge:

"tedious and time-consuming" doen't sound too motivating. :( I've just finished a rip with almost 300 crop zones and I'm not really up for more dicking. Guess I'll just let this one go...

Hi guys, I've got these bunch of rips with DTS tracks that I want to transcode into AC3 (for personal use, not sharing).
What program and choice of bitrate do you recommend?

Thanks Rogue :cheer: (only 10 days later lol)
Just curious: is there any noticeable difference in sound quality between using libav and commercial decoders? Or all the same shit?

Anyone left who can look at a sample for me (IVTC problem)? :)

Here it is:
http://www.share-online.biz/dl/EYU23NMN6CP

It needs to be ivtc'd. I've tried TIVTC with and without post processing, and telecide/decimate.

I can't get rid of jerkiness and jagged edges.

The start just needs tfm().tdecimate()

It's difficult to tell on the sample where the framerate changes, but after being field matched and 'loved to death', it has a repeating frame pattern of

0000100100100010001001001 (where 1's are duplicate frames)

So it needs decimating to 21.578 fps...

[container framerate] * (1 - [duplicated frames per cycle] / [total number of frames per cycle]) = true framerate

29.970 * (1 - 7 / 25) = 21.578

I've only had time to have a quick look so far, so I'll get back to you when I've figured out how to tackle the aliasing :)

That's fucking strange. Why would this be shot at that fps or change fps?

You think there's a way I can get away with encoding at constant fps (using avi container and xvid)?

And thanks for helping me out. :huge:

Sorry ^Rogue^ I didn't think I'd be as busy as I have been.

Just been having another play around with the sample though, so I can answer you at last :)

Not very good news though I'm afraid unless you want to spend quite some time on it. The only way I could properly sort the aliasing was to manually tell tfm how to match the aliased frames through an overrides file, which is obviously very time consuming. If you don't want to do that, then hitting it with qtgmc (maybe even twice?) is probably the way to go, though you will be losing a lot of the finer details.

I couldn't get tdecimate to accurately remove the duplicate frames so I used selectevery instead. You'll have to watch out for pattern changes though.

I'd suggest losslessly encoding the different sections first and then joining them for the final encode.

I'd imagine you'll need to resync the audio too.

My script for the funky 21.578 fps part looked like this:

trim(596,0)
tfm(trimin="0,595",slow=2)
selectevery(25,0,1,3,4,6,7,9,10,11,12,14,15,17,18,20,21,22,23)
assumefps("ntsc_film")

The trimin setting made no difference on the sample but might do overall, you'll just have to try it and see if it does. The slower matching method caught and fixed a few of the aliased frames though, so leave that in.

Anyway, have fun :)

Holy crap, this sure is borked. :(

Thanks for all your work, I'll have to see what to make of this mess. Worst thing: it's a series, so potentially tons of shittyness... :rain:

You can use Subtitle Workshop,

Quote:
The options to adjust and synchronize the subtitles are found in the the Edit -> Timings menu and there are several to choose from. The simple menu option to shift the subtitles forwards or backwards in time by 100 milliseconds might be all that?s required for some users, although you can also manually or automatically set duration limits, expand or reduce on screen display times, more precise control over inserting positive or negative delay times and adjust the time between the first and last spoken lines. All of those options can be applied to all or just selected subtitles. The video file itself can be opened in the window for a more visual inspection of the accuracy of your adjustments.

1) I'm on a mac
2) the movie is a triple audio, x264 mkv, from what I remember of subtitle workshop when I was still a pc user, it is/was not supported so... :cheese:

I'm using Time Adjuster for years now, great little piece of freeware. IDK if it's available for Mac

If not, you can send me the subtitle file and timestamps of first and last subtitle, and I'll sync it for ya :cum:
