Post Need help (fps restore)
I'm getting blends with this:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CMRKIIL8

Can anyone help?

Btw. is there a reason the ripping topic is locked?

Unless I'm missing something, there are no blends in that sample - it's 3:2 pulled-down progressive video so tfm().tdecimate() is all it needs.

The 'Ripping/encoding/releasing Q & A Prt. III' thread isn't locked... Maybe you tried to post in one of the (locked) older threads?

Yep, you are. I've tried FF/IVTC and it doesn't work. The structures in the background from the previous frame shine through the guys head and also check out his arm.

Here you are:

I'm sure that is not motion blur but blending since in other scenes it was pretty obvious structures from the previous frames shine through.

It looks more like temporal smearing than a blend. Maybe a true video to 23.976 gone wrong? I'll take a look at your sample later today, but I don't think there is anything that can be done, temporal smearing is evil.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find a sequence where the blending/temp smearing is more obvious. I'll post either screens or another short sample later. Probably with a scencechange since those are very problematic. :) :cheer:

This is what I get:

Looks like I may have posted the screens from one of my filter tests. :grrr:
I meant to post the IVTC/crop/resize-one. I'll check.

OK, looks like I don't have the crop/resize-one anymore. In the meantime this uses:

IVTC/Crop/resize and
ReduceFlicker(strength=3, aggressive=true, grey=false, planar=false)

Image

If it's indeed temporal smaring, I'm beginning to think reduceflicker may have caused it?
I'll encode one without to verify.

In the meantime: this has all sorts of annoying flaws. For one there's 'vertical jitter' all through the movie and also luma flickering obvously. Any suggestions on how to make the best of it?

I can post more samples if you guys want. :) :cheer:

OK, running another full encode with just IVTC/crop/resize. Normally I do that first and keep the encode for comparisons but looks like I've deleted it in an episode of retardation. :lol:

I'll let you know what problems still occur. :cheer:

Off for now. :)

Going off the sample that'll be okay.

ReduceFlicker was the problem (it's not needed anyway).

Don't you preview before encoding?

I'm not seeing any jittering or flickering... Maybe that's to come in future samples?

It may not be visible in this sample but some sort of luma stabilization is needed. There is some pretty annoying flickering in the source. :(

I make a full 2-pass encode with no filtering, see how it looks and decide if I want to use any filters. After each change I compare to the unfiltered one (which I obviously had deleted in this case :beh: ). May be more time consuming but the preview is not as accurate as a full encode. :)

I'll see if I can cut a sample with all the borking I was refering to. Not sure if I'll have time today though, so could be tomorrow.

It's only used as a helper filter for building intermediate clips.

OK, here's a new sample. I've included source and encode (IVTC/crop/resize, nothing else).

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A4UUYAP6

The "jitter" and flickering are visible here (check the sky).

One word on the "jitter": I've compared some frames and to me it looks like there is a regularly occuring minute AR change between frames. Strange stuff.

Anyone wanna take a look?

Yes, the sky flickers. Maybe a temporal filter, specially on the lower frequencies? Haven't tried anything yet, but this is far more annoying and I see it in your AVI sample too.

People tend to avoid Force Film very often. If you don't have the time to check the result, then maybe you'll get some interlaced frames during scenechanges and that's it, it's usually not very bad. But using a "smart" fieldmatcher without checking can be worse, because it tries to act smart where there is no need to do anything, for example thinking that some patterns are interlaced when they are not and it can screw whole scenes:

Code:
DGDecode_mpeg2source("H:\videos\ST-Sample2\ST-source.demuxed.d2v")

tfm().tdecimate()

Image Image Image

A regular Force Film will do the job, but if the pattern breaks somewhere and you want to avoid a few hiccups then try pp=0. I learned the trick a few years ago: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=143434

Code:
DGDecode_mpeg2source("H:\videos\ST-Sample2\ST-source.demuxed.d2v")

tfm(mode=4,pp=0,slow=2).tdecimate()

Nice. :)

I've tried FF first (always do with telecinded sources) but it does leave combed frames in this source. That's why I've used IVTC.

I'll try

tfm(mode=4,pp=0,slow=2).tdecimate()

and read up on D9.

I'd prefer to lose the interlaced frames and that aliasing (is there a proper term for this thing btw?).

About the flickering: I'd be thankful for recommendations. :huge:

One more thing: and idea about the "AR jitter" (for lack of a better term)?

Post Re: Need help (fps restore)
The AR thingy is annoying if you know it's there, but I don't think it's noticeable. Anyway, I don't know how the handle it.

The background flickering: http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=1 ... stcount=33

So I did this:

Code:
DGDecode_mpeg2source("I:\videos\samples\rogue\ST-source.demuxed.d2v")

tfm(mode=4,pp=0,slow=2).tdecimate()

#low-frequency flicker removal
o = last
f = o.MinBlur(1,2).MinBlur(2,2).RemoveGrain(11,-1)
f.FluxSmoothT(7).mt_AddDiff(mt_MakeDiff(o,f,U=2,V=2),U=4,V=4)

crop( 2, 2, -2, -2)

#------------------------------------------
# Taken from MCBob.avs:
function MinBlur(clip clp, int r, int "uv")
{
uv   = default(uv,3)
uv2  = (uv==2) ? 1 : uv
rg4  = (uv==3) ? 4 : -1
rg11 = (uv==3) ? 11 : -1
rg20 = (uv==3) ? 20 : -1
medf = (uv==3) ? 1 : -200

RG11D = (r==1) ? mt_makediff(clp,clp.removegrain(11,rg11),U=uv2,V=uv2)
 \    : (r==2) ? mt_makediff(clp,clp.removegrain(11,rg11).removegrain(20,rg20),U=uv2,V=uv2)
 \    :          mt_makediff(clp,clp.removegrain(11,rg11).removegrain(20,rg20).removegrain(20,rg20),U=uv2,V=uv2)
RG4D  = (r==1) ? mt_makediff(clp,clp.removegrain(4,rg4),U=uv2,V=uv2)
 \    : (r==2) ? mt_makediff(clp,clp.medianblur(2,2*medf,2*medf),U=uv2,V=uv2)
 \    :          mt_makediff(clp,clp.medianblur(3,3*medf,3*medf),U=uv2,V=uv2)
DD    = mt_lutxy(RG11D,RG4D,"x 128 - y 128 - * 0 < 128 x 128 - abs y 128 - abs < x y ? ?",U=uv2,V=uv2)
clp.mt_makediff(DD,U=uv,V=uv)
return(last)
}

There is still some flickering left, but I like the result: http://www.mediafire.com/?p3exl8oomdm2xk7

And here are other things you could try.

:ere:
