Post having shit with my laptop monitor
ok, so normally when I plug in a hdmi cable in my laptop, it automatically appears on my hdtv & the laptop screen goes to sleep. as of just now it doesn't anymore, I get the same (dual) screen on both devices, but the laptop screen doesn't automatically goes to sleep anymore. I really can't remember how I've done it (or if this happened as a standard setting) coz I've had the bloody thing for a few years now.

also closing the lip is NOT an option anymore, as one of its hinges is broken. I need it get it to shutting down the laptop screen on connecting the hdmi cable again.

I've looked around on the web a bit, but apart from messing with the nvidia panel, this has gotten me nowhere.

suggestions?? (I really have no need to wath my movies on 2 screens at the same time ;) plus, its energy consuming)

Antro, you must have selected duplicate screen somewhere in your configuration, just disable it and you should be OK. If you need more instructions, give us more information :) Which OS, which VGA? Are you using display control application or native Windows screen properties?

The easiest would be, if you're using Windows 7. It's just Windows key + P, and you pick which one suits you best. You can choose between "clone", "monitor only", "TV only", "dualview".

Had go home, `cause I finished work for today. So...
And if you are using XP, it's really settings in the nVidia control panel. Can't help you more, because I haven't use XP for two years, and I don't remember the settings. Although, I don't remember turning off mu monitor. I just set it as a dualview. And turned off the monitor (PC) if it bothered me.

Well, you can try using this. I didn't tried it, so I'm not sure it's working correctly, if it all. And I recommend this as plan Z.

Oh, another idea popped-up in my head. Some laptops have turn off Fn button.

yes, I tried that; and after some messing with the display/nvidia settings I at least got it to work manually. Fn+F4 (1x) switches to the tv, Fn+F4 (2x) switches back. so at least I can go back to watching movies again ;)

but I'm still wondering as to why it doesn't do that automatically anymore; used to do that of its own when it detected the hdmi cable was plugged in

anyway, thanks a lot guys
