WELL I'VE HAD IT!!!
I removed Vista.
After 2 months of running like crap I came to the conclusion it's not made for running 24/7
It's not ready for the big world either.
This means I wont be sharing or releasing any crap at the moment.
Funny how Vista was the original one and XP is not

It came with the computer
Well I've a problem now. I tried to install XP and the CD was rotten halfway. So I made a copy of it on the other computer. I tried it again in the broken computer and it wouldn't install.
I tried two different versions of XP, no luck
I even tried Windows 2003, no luck
I put in my recovery CD of Vista and I could install fucking Vista.
So I got it back. After I was done I tried re-installing XP and it wont install. I get a black screen.
My guess is some hardware malfunction, because that's the last thing I see.... "Checking the system's hardware configuration"
The mobo that came with it doesn't have AGP so I can't switch videocards, I'm stuck with my onboard videocard.
If I install XP from Vista it says the Windows I've now is newer than the one I want to install.
Do you guys know a trick? I'm really lost here. I dont want to continue with Vista.

Try creating a partition with partition magic & installing to that or if you have a spare hard drive lying around, format it & unplug your drive with vista on it & installing XP onto it.

make a partition magic bootdisk, & boot from there, it'll ask you if you want to do a clean format. after that you reboot & insert your xp cd
that's how I always fix a screwed up windows or something that won't let you enter the pc anymore

LOL well good thing I keep seperate partitions for my crap. So nothing is lost. Except gknot and all the stuff and my bookmarks.
Fuck it.
Well I'm up and running again.... in Vista.
Gonna see if I can fiddle with an extra drive and dual boot and slowly make Vista disappear again.

I'm currently playing again with Vista since all the stuff mentioned above doesn't work.
It's like Vista layed a big turd in the hardware.
I'm also checking what's happening
The annoying thing was the automatic rebooting.
I was paying attention while it was showing a BSOD (yes they still exist!!!)
So I'm update the shit out of my hardware at the moment
It's still weird. For two months it ran fine and now it doesn't. Maybe the CPU being 65+ degrees celcius 24/7 isn't very good
Fucking Intel crapper

I'm now trialing vista ultimate x64 on the other PC & so far so good.
Found a few programs that wont work coz theyre looking for the executables in the wrong folder which is easily rectified by altering in the program properties to point at where the exe is (usually SysWOW64). XviD, AC3 & DivX codecs work fine. Gknot rips with no problems. Half Life 2 on steam runs well.
Just to be safe its dual booted with XP x64.
Regards your BSOD, I had that with a heavily modified BIOS setting & by resetting to defaults it went away.

I'll switch once all the apps I use are able to run on it.
Actually I'd prefer xp 64 but alas... I believe software developers will likely concentrate on Vista compatibility.
I'd like 8gb usable memory Though I don't need it

Yeah 64bit still needs work. Too bad. I had XP 64 a long time ago and it was horrible to see how none of the software installed work. Well it worked in 32bit emulation which slowed down the computer.
Anyway. I've no problems with Vista anymore. I turned off SearchIndex and SystemRecovery. Those were the nasty ones.
I also turned off my Lux blow up doll. It was turned on all the time checking me out.

Yeah it has a lot of bugs. You should wait for the revision 2 which also utilizes a quad core processor

I've been using xp x64 for 2 years+ now & its been brilliant.
Encodes are so much faster than x86.
The biggest problem is drivers for your hardware as almost everything I've got plugged in isnt supported by the manufacturers, but through http://www.planetamd64.com/ I've managed to get custom drivers to make everything work. Theres been some games that wouldnt install on x64 but that was easy to fix as its 9/10 a case of the MSI installer doesnt have x64 in its OS compatibilty so by editing it to remove the OS check (dead easy) you can install the game.
Definately worth dual booting with if youve never tried it. I've been dual booted with x86 all the way but cant remember the last time I booted to it.

wrong
Or are you using a 64bits version of Avisynth, Xvid and all the filters? Only if you use 64bits version of all these (which are in early alpha in most cases), then you will get a ~10% speedboost.

I'm using the x64 XviD codec but everything else is stock.
When I was encoding on this on x86 whilst hosting a chatroom on winmx it lagged the room so bad people kept falling out but when I switched to x64 that problem stopped & the encodes were definately faster.

I've just upgraded again to: Athlon64 6400+ Black edition AM2, dual crucial Ballistix DDR2 1066 1gb sticks on a new board & its reduced an unfiltered gknot rip time from around 2 hrs to 75 mins.
I'll go upstairs & test this script now
