High Definition players, cheap and multifunctional
I did a post like this a while back, I dunno how long back and where I posted it.
Anyway. There's been a lot of stuff coming out these days to make us watch movies in nice ways.
- You have the XBOX (no HD output I believe) and XBOX 360 (HDMI present)
I hate microsoft, but these are good alternatives.
I dont know if they play MKV though, but it must be.
And you can play games on it
- Then there's LaCie Silverscreen. The only thing missing from that is an ethernet connection.
It has HDMI, DTS, 320GB is the smallest one you can get and it has a nice design and a remote. Just for 200 euros.
- Now I noticed a nice trashcan by Dvico (thanks Bill Martian)
Very nice design, but at 430 euros it's expensive, since it only can show movies and pictures.
For that price you can buy a PC which is the next option.
- PC, it can do anything you want it to do. Except you will have to deal with Windows
It's the most priced item, but if you are bored with movies you can play games as well.
If you guys have any recommendations, let me know. I'm still searching.

Definitely a pc media player aka HTCP.
Maybe it is not so cheap but is certainly good for a long run!
Cause you can put in any fuckin read drive you want in it. Be it blu-ray or hd-dvd or something else.
I'd go for that if I wanted a player, but right now I need 2 monster pc's.
Which aren't that expensive either (about 1500$ each, and they slay performance wise for a non-gamer)
HTCP would be 700$ max!

HTPC! There are no tried and true x264 (aka h264) standalone profiles yet. If you want to download and enjoy HD encodes without headaches a HTPC is the only choice.

For balkans there is a good reading here
http://forum.pcekspert.com/showthread.php?t=63027
I'll look into it later even though I don't need one. I'm a tech geek lately
Hmmm I should build one for myself when I'll have extra cash.
Besides, this winter Nvidia will release new graphic cards so the 8800 gts ones should fall in prices
Even though for a HTCP a cheapy Radeon with HD processing chip should be enough, unless you wanna play games too

Save some money and just setup a halfway decent computer to your TV HTPC cases look sexy, but man they add to the cost substantially.

If the case is the problem, you can 'build' that yourself. I have looked into case modding a bit and now i have 2 ol' computer cases lying around untill i got all the other parts to go in it. Got some stuff from my boss (cooler etc), i got some comp stuff ( i want my zipdrive installed again, DVDBurner..), but most i probaby will buy new/second hand.

You can buy a sexy case later. Just look for coolers, psu and a hard drive that make no noise.

As for silent and pretty cool HDD's the choice of the moment are Samsung T166 models and Western Digital AAKS models
For PSU I'd say not only should it be silent but also a good brand.
The Corsair VX and HX models are great lately as I heard, especially the VX 450 on teh cheaper side
Dudes this makes me horny, I'll go read about the Sonic Tower cooler, it's amazing

Pure are you high? No one contradicted you
I was just suggesting some components of which some will go into my new computers
Corsair 620HX comes to mind. What a power source

But you agreed to gx who said Quote: You can buy a sexy case later.
As long as they are silent
