ok, so here's the deal

I want a new stereo, I'm tired of having a rack in my house, its big, ugly & dusty
I was thinking along the lines of one of those new compact mini hifi things (that have a cdplayer built in & they have a usbport for playing music off a stick, however... I have yet to encounter one that has a phono input.

The only thing I want is for it to be able to have a record player hooked up to it; be it my old technics one (preferrably ) or I'll even buy one of those new usb recordplayers for it, providing that shit works on such a stereo (I assume so, since they have an usb port)

I'm a bit at loss here, I don't know & understand shit of all that new digital audio shit; I'm after all from the analog period in time

Can't you just use a spare aux slot or something simular. Most times (as far as I know of) there's atleast one present.

yes, but even if thats present, you still need a small extra amplifier to put between the pickup & the system, so then its back to the rack again

Not necessary, some have a built in pre-amp or at least the stereo's I had always had 'em. Thats something I would look for. I know sugden has made some good ones.
