Post Release masters: What information guides release choice?
This is a cross-post from:

I'm looking for technical specs that can be extracted ideally

This one is for the Quality Jedi. I'm wanting to know what factors drive your choice of rip, putting aside the various movie editions and cuts, what technical specs are important in ranking the quality factor?

Speaking from a horror movie collector perspective:
  • Movie
  • Cut (ie. theatrical, director's, extended, workprint)
  • Edition (ie. which master, dvd/bluray edition)
Are all important movie details, there are a lot of movies with varying cuts both in terms of editing and in terms of censorship, this is the easy part to store... harder as i've lost touch a bit is what specifications are important to present...

ie.
Resolution + AR
Matting
Video Bitrate
Codec
?

I'm looking for measurable objective/automatable criteria as opposed to preferred set-ups (ie. my toaster only supports .ra), etc, in an ideal world would you want to see on a release comparison?
