Currently translating The Gates of Thorbardin from Dan Parkinson. Picture is above.

Ok. It could be a good book if another author would write the descriptions. Honestly. The guy has very nice characters, the plot is good enough, the speech is great. But my god his descriptions... he is using some terrible dictionary where he thinks he is a poet and in other descriptions he is using really technical therms. If I would not study University of Technology and did not have at least 4 exams from materials and metal works, I would not be able to do anything with this. Now he began to use words from .... building planes? Is he trying to teach the readers something? And did you know, that dwarfs do have indoor pluming and are paying fees for it to not get disconnected? And if they do not pay in time, they pay penalties?

Did I already say that I am happy that the author is dead, or I would have to send some not nice letter myself? Preferably lethal?

and look if he descriptions are poetic, you can see that as a practice, because poetic shit and poetry are hardest things to translate.

The movie doesn't suck... It's not as good as the book, but it doesn't suck. Although I guess it's much harder to enjoy it if you haven't read Pratchett's books before seeing it.
