yeah watch is great and all, but and id love to see him get out of the Ankh more often. New countries, new jokes, cause some of the old ones are getting pretty, well, old by now.

Oh, and a warning, if there is a Fantasy fan out there DONT read Trudi Canavans, Black Magician Trilogy, BOOOOOORING!

Good choice, Zissou! :good: And a nice idea for a topic.

I'm waiting for my wife's birthday for that one (I plan to buy her Thud! :D), currently reading: Tim Powers: "Declare" and Clive Cussler: "Cyclops". I love Tim Powers' books, and I also love Cussler's work, I use his books for special applications. You know what I mean by that :dump:

@antro: yes, the Watch books are excellent, but there's no comparison with Rincewind :teeth: (we already had this discussion on IRC )

Yesterday i finished Thud! by pratchett and i must say as far as watch novels this one was pretty good, finally some magic, he doesn't use it enough anymore IMHO and we finally understand the strife between trolls and dwarfs, superbly done!

@Collie: which of the Clive Cusslers books do you recommend to read first, thats diving and treasure and shit, right? I watched his shows on Discovery (they are not very professional, more commercial in my opinion, but fun to watch).

@Lux: "Especially early 20th century Enngland works, mostly fantasy oriented." can you make any recommendations im fed up with this new age fantasy, 900 pages of balblabla shit.?!! They think and talk waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much, supposedly that makes you understand the characters but it only annoys me, I DONT WANT EVERYTHING EXPLAINED, i have a brain,... supposedly! :wallbash:

Oh, and if your for a good scifi or fantasy read, id recommend Ian Banks or Ian M. Banks, fucking heavy shit, very imaginative!

Whaddaya mean "which one"? Are you telling me there are differences between them? :D Nah, pick any one you get your hands on, they're all basically the same shit  And yes, there is some diving and treasure involved, but not to a point that I suppose you'd want it to be. And I think that your "not very professional, more commercial, but fun" pretty much wraps up his work whether it's books or docum... docus! Docu docu docu!!! Docu! :bla:

One of the last decent books I read was Irvine Welsh's - Filth.

FILTH is an AWESOME book. I recommend it to EVERYONE (specially you Collie ^^)

Quote:
Filth tells the story of Bruce Robertson, an Edinburgh policeman whose life resembles Harvey Keitel's in Bad Lieutenant. Racist, misogynist, homophobic and psychotic, Robertson devours hard-core pornography whilst mentally and physically abusing himself and everybody around him. Despite his appalling personal hygiene supplemented by a genital rash and an attack of tapeworms (more of this later), he nonetheless manages to have sex with almost every female he meets, in between setting up colleagues for queer-bashing or driving others to the brink of suicide.

Robertson isn't really a bad person, though. As his tapeworm explains in the latter chapters of the book - yes, the narrator is quite literally talking out of his arse - Robertson has had a tough time. He came into the world as the result of a violent rape, his adoptive stepfather made him eat coal, and the first love of his life died. The section describing the death of his first girlfriend is the only funny part of the book as Welsh goes massively over the top, piling on the pathos as he recounts how the poor crippled girl is struck by lightning in a scene that could have come straight out of an Airplane movie. Unfortunately this bit is supposed to be serious.

as for me, I started reading MORT again

GOOD IDEA.
I do it every summer, when I go to vacation. I have some of the books in my holiday house, and I keep re-reading them. Not all of them, but the ones I have at hand :D
(Interesting Times, The Fifth Elephant, Carpe Jugulum, Jingo... if I remember correctly)
