Re: Ripping/encoding/releasing Q & A Prt. III
So I imagined the hardcoded subs? Or are you saying you're using some shitty application to remove them? There's no real heavy blocking and there's no banding in that sample, but there are what looks to be 7 horizontal strips of noise/crap (or 8 horizontal strips of blur depending on how you look at it). sorry, but I've not had much joy fixing it properly I guess you could hit it with RemoveNoiseMC(rdlimit=8,rgrain=2,denoise=8) and then add a little artificial grain, but if it's just in the odd scene though, I'd prolly just leave it as it is.

Re: Ripping/encoding/releasing Q & A Prt. III
I used Smart Cutter, supports a lot of output and easy to use but looks like shows hardcodded subtitle,I checked original vobs and there's not any hardcodded thing. junkboy wrote: There's no real heavy blocking and there's no banding in that sample, but there are what looks to be 7 horizontal strips of noise/crap (or 8 horizontal strips of blur depending on how you look at it). sorry, but I've not had much joy fixing it properly You can point me some topic maybe? You're right about real problem,I'm just focus dancing grain, banding, white spots.I'm not in a hurry. Looks like leave it as it is nice option. Thanks in advance JB.

Yeah, don't use Smart Cutter for DVD samples, use DGIndex instead.

Quote: here is some discussion on brandon eich's blog (mozilla ceo): Code: user: What is happening with Daala and VP9? Have you asked google if they will join forces with you and just make a single codec otherwise we will have the same issue that we had with h.264 vs webm, we need a single next gen video codec.
Brendan Eich says: October 15, 2012 at 4:50 pm Daala is a way out still. I?ll let Robert O'Callahan and others respond at greater length.
Robert O'Callahan says: October 15, 2012 at 4:57 pm The next-gen free codec issue is being worked on. I don?t want to say much about it here, but we are organizing a group at the IETF to standardize it. It looks as though google, mozilla and xiph may join forces to create a single next gen patent-free video codec of similar quality to HEVC. This would be wonderful news:) Google had previously said that VP9 was scheduled for Q3 2013 btw, so we shouldn't expect a codec from anybody until atleast then. This would be nice news.

Re: Ripping/encoding/releasing Q & A Prt. III
Funniest thing: I've been dicking around with Spawn Animated for ages, frustrating as fuck because I've never been able to deinterlace it properly. Now I learn that max and JB have been doing the same thing. I would have uploaded samples tomorrow and asked you guys to take a look. Which brings me to: we need master gx back.

Btw. I've tried all the usual field matching/deinterlacing methods, no luck.

Re: Ripping/encoding/releasing Q & A Prt. III
What's the easiest way to glue some avi's or mkv's together? Can I do it with Yamb?
And how can I easily cut a sample from an mkv file?

And how can I easily cut a sample from an mkv file? my guess is that you can, but, yamb is known for some OOS issues. as for cutting a mkvfile (in wich codec btw) i would recoment you'd use stax rip since it has a very easy gui to play with. kudos

Re: Ripping/encoding/releasing Q & A Prt. III
OK, thx, I'm gonna give it a shot.
Next question:
I got this Elvira film Maneater of Hydra. I want to rip the film, not the scenes with Elvira. How can I make a d2v without the scenes with Elvira? When I try to cut them out using GK, I can only make a short sample each time. Now it's no problem to make several d2vs of course, but how can I make them work together for one rip?

I think this right... Code: v1=DGDecode_mpeg2source("blabla").Trim(x,x) v2=DGDecode_mpeg2source("blabla").Trim(x,x) v3=DGDecode_mpeg2source("blabla").Trim(x,x)
v1+v2+v3

If you've the NTSC disc then you can rip just the movie... Load VTS_01_0.IFO in PgcDemux, select your output folder and tick the 'Demux video stream' & 'Demux all audio streams' boxes. The movie is in the second PGC, so select the second PGC from the drop-down menu. Click on 'Process!' and it'll demux the video (as an .m2v file) and audio to your output folder. After that, just index the m2v and encode as you would do normaly.

Re: Ripping/encoding/releasing Q & A Prt. III
Thx junkboy, worked like a charm!
New question:
I'm totally fucking about with sizes.
In some films it doesn't matter what I do it always comes out as 739 MB or at most 740, while I aimed for 746. I already changed max B-VOPs to zero and used various matrices (6of9 and heini-mr included).
Now I got this rip which just doesn't want to come out lower than 749 MB, and even came out as 751 MB a few times (the latter size also came out when I used eqm_v3lr).
What do you guys think?
a) What the hell, it is only a few MB why bother? b) Oh no! You are overlooking the simplest thing, which is... (fill in solution here)

Re: Ripping/encoding/releasing Q & A Prt. III
you can use another matrices something like ZAWOR-ZSM but use B-VOPs

Re: Ripping/encoding/releasing Q & A Prt. III
The matrices I have and tried in this case were:
JAWOR ZSM 6of9 heini-mr eqm_v3lr eqm_v3hr
I managed to make a 743 MB rip now. It turned out that I had forgotten to re-tick the box for calculating frame overhead when selecting the mp3 for audiofile 1. For some reason the rip came out as 743 when I did that. Weird.
