My brain is mush and there still is much to learn. Now I finally "somewhat" understand the first post of this thread. I have questions though, because I cannot get the batch file thingy to work. (So what's new?)
I downloaded and created a directory for the avs2qxvid (version 2.5h). In another directory with my movie, I created a (valid) avs file and a text file (mymovie.enc.txt) with
When I dropped the avs file on aud2mp3.bat, A DOS window briefly appeared, and some text flew by. I don't believe it did anything. What did I do wrong?
Also, elguaxo's first reply to this thread indicates that I should replace the avs2qxvid package XviD dll's to the latest versions. Are the instructions on how to do that still valid? Is there anything else I should update? (I didn't read every page of this thread, sorry.)
Thanks again in advance!

aud2mp3.bat is the wrong bat file.
You need to drop it on the other one.

Ah yes. This thread does specify that batch file.
Not sure it worked as it should have though... A DOS box opened and displayed "Checking Source", and a sub directory was created under my movie directory. It contains 3 files - .txt, .avs, and .log. The log just contains a date & time stamp and the text "Checking Source". The .avs contains the same as the original avs with a bit of extra code:
Code: space=" " writefile("C:\video\tmp\mymovie.at.txt", "Width()", "space", "Height()", "space", "Framecount()", "space", "Framerate()", "space", "FramerateNumerator()", "space", "FramerateDenominator()", "space", "HasAudio()", append=false) trim(0,-1) and the .txt file contains: Code: 704 384 136417 23.976025 24000 1001 false
Lux Delux wrote: Here's what preset to choose depending on the comptest percent. If you get an oversize file choose the next higher preset, and if undersize choose the lower one.
I don't see a "comptest percent" number, and wasn't VirtualDubMod supposed to run?

My bad again. My .avs didn't properly point to my d2v file. Now I have a whole new error:
Code: "Checking Source...." Streaming frame 224 (of 240, 93.33%) 240 Error checking source - avsutil.exe cannot play the avs script. Press any key to continue . . .
Will try updating Xvid.

In the TMP folder there should be a txt file that should display the "comptest = "

In the main movie folder, it created a .at.avs file. In the TMP dir, just a log file with Code: ------------------------------------------------- 31/01/2008 10:50:27.31 - Checking Source
elguaxo wrote: Edit: one little trick. With this .bat thingy you will be using xvid_encraw and the xvid version you have installed in your system. But you can encode with newer versions of Xvid, just downloading the latest version here and extracting xvidcore.dll to the same directory of xvid_encraw.exe included in avs2qxvid.bat.rar.
I thought doing the above might solve the error I reported, but it did not. The search continues...

No long file names with spaces!
EDIT:
Sorry. Will do edits like this from now on.
EDIT#2
Badbugs @ Dead Donkey says I'm doing comptest on the full rip http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic. ... 222#175222
What is the code I need to add to my script in order to fix this?

if you're using this there's no possibele way to fuck uop the comptest
example, if your .avs file is named raped.avs the avs2qxvid bat file will be called:
raped.enc.txt and in it there will be:
with yirur kbps offcourse, you can see that in gknot for exampel

HAHA!
I just went through 18 pages of this thread to find out about using kbps instead of of size, and then I get this page and there's your answer. Well, lets start this baby over again. (This stuff has one hell of a learning curve. No way I would have gotten this far without the help I received!)
EDIT:
F*CK! I'm so stupid... I hadn't even made a enc.txt file for this comptest. BLah!!
EDIT # 2:
GK doesn't like my version of DGIndex. Unless there is another way, l will make a 2nd temporary D2V file with the DGIndex GK likes.

Re: avs2xvid.bat Comments/suggestions
(a) It might be nice if the batch file asked if the user wanted a different encode for credits, and if so, what frame # credits start at. You guys probably don't need it with your 1.46gb rips, but for 746mb rips any saved bits that can be reused on the main portion of the film is appreciated.
(b) Using kbps in the enc.txt file works well. However I have found if I use a CBR mp3 file, I achieve a final file size closer to what I originally wanted.
(c) 2 errors so far:
"LUX-30 does not exist or is incomplete"
"LUX-45 does not exist or is incomplete"

It's just a case of using xvid zones, but I haven't worked out how to script that yet. gigantibyte wrote: (b) Using kbps in the enc.txt file works well. I find if you rip the audio to VBR mp3 first, then select that as the audio track in GK, it'll give you a much more accurate video bitrate and the resulting encode is bang on the size you need. gigantibyte wrote: (c) 2 errors so far:

There's no LUX-30 or 45.

If anything, it should say "Make your movie file more compressible, bitch!"

Anyone ever have any problems with LUX-85? My video has a weird Keanu Reeves Matix thing going on. Every so often, the video rewinds a few frames back. The video quality was otherwise great.
EDIT:
Hmmm... The jerky video may have been related to me using mpeg2source() instead of DGDecode_mpeg2source().

FWIW, I only just started using DGDecode_mpeg2source() and never had the issue you describe over dozens of rips.

I wasn't clear. I saved the movie project using one version of DGIndex, and encoded using another dll version.

Re: avs2xvid.bat with Lux presets
Anyone know if the XviD preset matrices of megui are stored by default extra folder? I was rather thinking of making the updates for megui, since it's nicer to encode with and easier to change minor settings. And I use it anyways so....

Re: avs2xvid.bat with Lux presets
What is a good level preset to aim for?
In order to keep my satrips at the 1/6 DVD size, I've lowered the resolution, and used clean up filters, but I still end up having to use LUX-55 to LUX-70 typically. I was thinking of letting the compressibility test determine if I use a larger file size like 1/5 or 1/4 DVD. The lower end presets work great, but I may be able to produce something even better with some extra bytes.

Re: avs2xvid.bat with Lux presets
LUX-70 would be the lowest I'd ever use, if even that! x264 is usually way better at those sizes, if the source ain't too grainy. Depends on the source though, for example some sources look amazing even with min quant 3 6of9!

No, the comptest is 84. 58 is probably Teegedeck preset.
